Anyone can type a domain name into a form. Verification proves that the seller really controls it. It protects buyers from fake listings, and it shows serious sellers apart.

The ways to verify#

  • DNS TXT record: add a TXT record with a token we give you. This is the fastest way.
  • DNS CNAME record: add a CNAME record for a token sub-domain, pointing at our verification host.
  • Manual review: upload proof, such as a registrar screenshot, and a moderator checks it.
  • Connected registrar: connect your registrar account under Portfolio. Domains found in it are verified by themselves.

Start a verification#

  1. Open the domain in My Domains and choose verify.
  2. Pick a method and press Start verification.
  3. For DNS methods, copy the host and value into your DNS settings.
  4. Press Check now. We also keep checking by ourselves every few minutes.

When we find the record, the domain gets the verified badge and you are told.

Keep the record in place#

We check verified domains again from time to time. If the record disappears or the domain changes hands, the proof becomes out of date and the listing leaves the market until you verify again.
