Counter offers and negotiation
An offer often goes back and forth before both sides agree. Each step is a counter offer, and every step is kept in the offer's history.
How a negotiation runs#
- The buyer sends an offer.
- The seller accepts, declines with a reason, or sends a counter offer with a new amount.
- The buyer can then accept the counter, decline it or counter again.
- This goes on until one side accepts or declines, or the offer expires.
The offer page always shows whose turn it is, the time left and the buttons you can use now.
Rules that keep it fair#
- A counter must move the price by a minimum amount.
- There is a maximum number of counter rounds.
- Offers expire after a set number of days without an answer.
- You can send messages inside the offer to explain your price.
Tips for both sides#
- Explain your number. "This is my budget for the launch" works better than silence.
- Answer quickly. Deals go cold.
- Do not move the talk to e-mail or chat apps. The offer thread is your record and keeps buyer protection.
